We’ve compiled a state-by-state list below of initiated programs designed to support former federal employees through training and employment opportunities. They aim to leverage the skills of displaced federal workers and assist them in transitioning to new roles.

State Resources

Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Labor has curated several programs to assist displaced workers (Connecticut Department of Labor).

California

Governor Gavin Newson signed an executive order calling on the Department of Human Resources to prioritize hiring displaced federal workers.  In support of this effort, a new website—“Work for California”—has been launched, offering resources such as hiring events, one-on-one career consultations, and job search guidance (PSHRA).

Colorado

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) has partnered with the Statewide Workforce System to support individuals affected by recent job cuts. The CDLE has posted reemployment resources and information on how to file an unemployment insurance claim on its website. As of February 2025, the state’s job portal, ConnectingColorado, listed over 60,000 open positions (CDLE).

Florida

Florida’s Employ Florida platform connects job seekers with employment opportunities and provides helpful tools for resume development, job matching, and registering for career fairs and recruitment events (Master of Project Academy).

Georgia

Douglas County is partnering with WorkSource Georgia and Elevate Douglas to launch a campaign aimed at helping recently displaced job seekers. The initiative will encourage individuals to use an online portal to access job opportunities, resume-building tools, and training resources (Douglas County). 

Fulton County is prioritizing displaced federal employee applications. The Commission Chairman Robb Pitts has guaranteed an interview for displaced applicants who reside in the county. As of March 2025, the county had about 800 vacancies to fill for a wide variety of sectors (Fulton County).

Hawaii

Governor Josh Green signed executive order “Operation Hire Hawaiʻi” aiming to  expedite state hiring for qualified affected federal employees into state positions. Candidates will be supported with outreach, job placement assistance and career transition support (Hawaiʻi Department of Human Resources).

Maryland

In response to federal workforce reductions, Maryland Governor Wes Moore introduced a plan to recruit displaced federal employees for state jobs. The state has launched a website to connect job seekers with over 130,000 openings and is hosting job fairs to facilitate employment transitions (The Washington Post).

New York

New York has launched a recruitment initiative welcoming federal workers affected by layoffs, offering fast-tracked hiring processes, and job fairs to fill numerous state job vacancies (AP News).

North Carolina

North Carolina’s Department of Commerce offers resources for impacted federal workers and contractors, including information on unemployment benefits and reemployment services through NCWorks Career Centers. These centers provide career training and job placement services to dislocated workers (NC Commerce).

New Mexico

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham urged displaced federal employees—especially veterans—to explore opportunities in New Mexico’s state workforce. To support their transition into public service, the state offers job fairs, assistance with unemployment benefits, and access to state-funded training programs (fdaaa.org).

Pennsylvania

To strengthen Pennsylvania’s state workforce, Governor Josh Shapiro introduced an executive order focused on attracting experienced former federal employees. A job portal was launched to help match these professionals with high-priority openings in state government (fdaaa.org).

Texas

Through the WorkInTexas portal, the Texas Workforce Commission provides a comprehensive employment platform for job seekers across the state. In addition, Texas Workforce Solutions offices assist displaced federal employees with career services, including access to training programs, workshops, and individualized support (Master of Project Academy).

Virginia

The Commonwealth’s agencies and partners are providing resources to federal employees affected, including tools to apply for unemployment, career support and opportunities (Secretary of the Commonwealth).
